Short Week!

Wednesday, May 16, 2012
It's a short week for the blog. I've got an extra-extra long weekend coming up and I have stacks on stacks on stacks of things to finish before I jet off in 25 hours. But with 10 combined hours of flight time over the next week, lots of work will get done.

New posts mid next week and some coverage of Vancouver Craft Beer Week the week after.

Have a great long weekend/May two-four/whatever for those of you in Canada. If you're in the States, enjoy your regular work week, suckas! But you'll be saying the same thing to us next weekend.

In the meantime, follow me on Twitter.

Stripes for Summer

Tuesday, May 15, 2012
I don't tend to wear tons of pattern, but when I do, it's usually stripes. I'm not a big polka dot girl (too cutesy), I wear the odd plaid (in flannel, obviously), and I just don't have a ton of florals. But stripes. That's a whole different ball game. As you can see here, here, here, and here, stripes are always appropriate. I am a huge fan of the nautical look, so that probably has something to do with my adoration for stripes.

What's great about stripes is that they can be as aggressive or as risk averse as you want, they're always in style, and they can be worn on any article or accessory you want.

Some of my fave striped picks for the summer. (I tried really hard to work a stripe pun into all this, but no luck.)
J. Crew Stripe Ballet Flats - $138.00
Sperry A/O 2-Eye Stripe Seersucker Boat Shoe - $149.98
James Perse Stripe Sundress - $145.00
J.Crew Stripe Dolman-sleeve Tee - on sale! $24.99
Whistles Lace Stripe Dress (be like Kate Middleton!) - $344.08
Rachel Zoe Madison Colorblock Shift Dress - $325.00
J.Crew Maritime Stripe Blazer - $118.00
Charlie Jade Madison Maxi Dress - $196.00

Outfit: Obakki & Black

I have this thing lately where I feel that because it's a certain month, the weather should be a certain temperature. But that's not always true. It's been getting my in trouble a lot recently, as I've gotten to the point where I just absolutely refuse to dress weather appropriate. I can assure you that when I was rocking the bare legs in these photos, it was most certainly not warm out.

This skirt reminds me of Alexander McQueen FW'12, so I affectionately refer to it as my 'vagina skirt'

Generic Surplus X The Ace Hotel X Steven Harrington: Summer 2012 Shoe Collaboration

Thursday, May 10, 2012
If you've been to Coachella then you know about The Ace Hotel. And even if you haven't been to Coachella (which means you should probably read my guide to festival fashion), you've heard of The Ace Hotel (or maybe not, but let's just pretend you have). The notorious hotel has reunited with one of my favourite menswear lines, Generic Surplus, and artist Steven Harrington, for a summer shoe collaboration - the Borstal.

Inspired by SoCal culture and the Palm Springs landscape, the collaboration features cotton weave patterned rattan with Harrington's artwork on the insole and shoebox.

These are perfect for summer - rock them to the beach, the pool, on your bike, to a party, or a bonfire. They won't let you down.

The Borstal can be found in select retailers across Canada:

Glam Slam Clothiers Ltd. (Edmonton)
Zebra Club Clothing & Accessories (Vancouver)
The Block (Vancouver)
Umeboshi (Vancouver)
Coda Clothing (Regina)
