What ever happened to common decency?

There once was a time when it was common to hear people being polite to one another. An "Excuse Me" here, a "Please" there. It was great because you enjoying doing simple things for others, like holding the door open, because it was appreciated.

NOT NOW!

These days you're lucky if you get a Thank You for holding the door open for someone. Sometimes even a smile will suffice. But, I would venture that about 80% of people magically "forget" their manners or are just plain rude.

The madness has to stop! Let's be honest here, how much are you putting yourself out to be polite? Is it that hard to say Please, Thank You, and Excuse Me?

For 2010, let's all try to make a conscious effort to be more polite. It's not hard and doesn't require any time at all.

I agree.. even if I feel like shit I'm still polite. It's not very hard to show some sort of appreciation

I say thank you, hellos, pleases all the time. My parents were very strict with ensuring I have etiquette.

PS about the photo editting stuff.
You can even use MS Paint if you like to edit. You can try this online version of Photoshop too and play with it

I say thank you when people hold doors open for me. It just seems like second nature for me and it confounds me why other people don't do it.

seeeeeriously agree. have you ever been at broadway stn trying to get on the skytrain at peak weekday morning time? manners nowhere to be found and people revert to acting like savages. it's terrible. a big YES to politeness making a comeback in 2010!

oh how I miss common decency. I've held doors open for ppl who walk out without even LOOKING AT ME. As if they were entitled and expected the door to be held open for them. I DON'T THINK SO JERKS!

It's annoying and I know exactly where you're coming from. I'm faced with rude ppl on a daily basis. It's quite sad that our society has come to this. Fine, I'll admit that I couldn't care less about other but at least I still remember my manners!

Good post Erin!
