I enjoy sharing the random photos I take in my day-to-day life because some of you don't follow me on Twitter (...and you should), and because it helps you gain a better idea of the person behind the madness.

Turtle, Turtle: An Outfit Post

Wednesday, November 2, 2011
And no, I don't mean this:

I'm talking about turtlenecks.

I think most people thought Niki from A Haute Mess was crazy when she declared her love for turtlenecks, but how cray cray can the girl be when InStyle and the rest of the fashion world agree? (Don't answer that, because you have no idea...LYMY!)

I picked up a lightweight white/cream turtleneck from Joe Fresh a few weeks ago (I was planning on getting one from American Apparel, but since I wasn't sure if I'd dig the look, I opted for the cheaper version) and hummed and hawed over how to style it. The weight of the turtleneck was key for me. I usually shy away from layering because I don't enjoy feeling bulky. But I'm determined this season to experiment more with layers.

The possibilities are endless for such a great staple, it easily works in to my wardrobe in and out of work. (Apologies for the crappy photos - I don't leave enough time in the morning to take pictures before work, and by the time I get home at the end of the day....gross. So, here's a tour of the bathroom at my office. You're welcome.)

I wore this outfit before it became wool coat weather, but it can easily be adapted.

All basics: moccasins, jeans, turtleneck

Add statement necklace for a bit of oomph (also seen here)

Add another layer for warmth (or cold weather denial), I opted for chambray

Finish with your fall coat (leather, anorak, chunky knit, etc.) and a scarf

Jacqueline Conoir & JAC S/S 12

Monday, October 31, 2011
Last week I attended the Jacqueline Conoir and JAC S/S'12 show at the Jacqueline Conoir studio. It was nice to see some familiar faces and meet some new ones.

The 2 lines are so different. I view the Jacqueline Conoir line as the grown up. The clothes are great for someone who is looking to look more professional, older women, and ladies who have a more conservative outlook on fashion and style.

The collection was full of colour, from aubergine to blue, and also had tons of prints. The dresses ranged from maxi, to short, and to wrap - reminding me of Diane von Furstenberg.

JAC is the opposite. Not to say that it's the little kid, but the line does have a younger and edgier aesthetic. It definitely suits my personal style more, but, like I said, the Jacqueline Conoir line would be perfect for my office. There are even some pieces that could be worn to be a bit edgier.

The JAC collection had a lot more separates, making them inter-changeable with each other. The palette was noticeably more neutral, making for easy transition from day to night.

Thanks to LJ PR for providing the photos and for organizing such a great show.

2 Girls, 1 Dress

...or 'Who Wore it Best?'

My friend (and co-worker) came with me to the H&M Metropolis Opening Event a couple weeks ago and we both tried on this houndstooth dress. And as luck would have it, it looked great on both of us and we both wanted to buy it.

Typically I wouldn't really condone buying the same bold dress as your friend, but, after some discussion, we learned that we both had totally different visions of how the dress could be worn. And so, the idea of 'Who Wore it Best (at Work)' was born.

I went for more of a mod, 60s inspired look.

Meanwhile, she went for more of a 'ladies who lunch' look, a la Charlotte York - gloves included.

In the end, our co-workers couldn't decide whose look they liked more - my shoes and hat were a hit, but everyone liked her addition of the belt.

From November 1-14 the Obakki Foundation will be running an auction on eBay. There are a number of different items and experiences available for bidding - from signed items by Taylor Swift and Beyonce, to one-of-a-kind experiences.

The Obakki Foundation is hoping to raise $200,000 to help fund the drilling of 200 water wells in the South Sudan.

The Obakki Foundation was created in 2009 by Obakki Creative Director, Treana Peake, to provide clean water projects and educational development in Africa.

100% of the auction proceeds will go towards building the Sudanese water wells.

LRMA Clothing

Thursday, October 20, 2011
Lookout Vancouver. There's a new kid in town.

I recently learned about LRMA Clothing at Eco Fashion Week. In fact, I was shocked and blown away by the show.

The LRMA S/S'12 collection was full of slim-fit, cropped khakis, shorts, blazers, and button-down shirts...basically everything you'd want your boyfriend to wear. And as we all know, prints are big for S/S'12, so there were plenty of those.

So who exactly is LRMA?

LRMA's designer is London Alexander, a Vancouver native. He grew up with very creative role models in his parents and Aunt. Through constant exposure to design and art, and silk screening in high school, London soon realized what he was meant to do. LRMA's first collection was F/W'11, with S/S'12 being the first full collection, which will be sold in stores.

So fellas, run, don't walk, to your computer to purchase some new duds. And ladies, Christmas is just around the corner...you know what he needs.

H&M Metrotown Opening

Wednesday, October 19, 2011
Last week I attended the opening of the new H&M at Metropolis in Burnaby.

First off, it's about time!! I've been wanting an H&M at Metropolis since.....well, since H&M came to Vancouver.

Second, great event! The event was a private shopping / social event. Guests were provided cocktails and (amazing!) canapés while they shopped in a low-stress environment. Why can't shopping be like that more often??!

The store itself, isn't as big as the Pacific Centre location, but it feels so much bigger for some reason. The lighting was great, the staff were friendly, and it seemed so open. The H&M space occupies 2 levels, right across from Forever 21.

Thanks to LJ PR for organizing such a lovely event and to H&M Canada for hosting us!
